On Friday 1 September, after months of hard work, we festively opened our new hall. We have a new interactive corner, with a scale, peepholes and an interactive column. In addition, the reception desk has been thoroughly refurbished and moved towards the entrance. Behind the desk the planets are highlighted to scale and with photos.
Dr. Martien Jacobs of the KNVWS gave a speech about the importance of public observatories in the Netherlands, and how special it is to have an observatory nearby.
Prof. Henny Lamers gave a short lecture about Nicolaus Copernicus, the Polish astronomer from whom we borrow our name.
Behind the chairs we now have space for a changing exhibition. And the subject of our first exhibition? Nicolaus Copernicus, of course, and his influence on astronomy over the centuries. Mayor Roest officially opened the new exhibition.
